If you visit Virelles and look carefully at the pond, you will see a strange object floating in the water.

The wind-powered aerator which helps to prevent a build-up of algae on the surface of the water.
How it works :
A wind turbine drives an underwater propeller. This in turn:
-
oxygenates the water,
-
prevents excessive growth of algae by reducing the concentration of their main nutrients (nitrates and phosphates),
-
prevents sludge building up and clogging the surface of the water.

The device was designed by the Aérolac® company.
Advantages
:
-
Does not consume any electricity

Easy to install and move around
-
Works well whatever the direction of the wind

Stable in the wind
-
Does not bring silt back into suspension
